Trojans Breeze Past Carver College in 104- 42 Win to open the 2021-22 Season

TROY, Ala. – The Trojans opened the 2021-22 basketball season Tuesday night with a 104–42 win over Carver College from a packed Trojan Arena. This was the fourth straight year the Trojans have defeated the Cougars.
Trojans (1-0) came out of the gate hot-hitting eight of their first nine shots, including four for five behind the three-point line. Troy finished with three double-digit scorers led by Desmond Williams, who finished with 17 points, then Zay Williams with 13, and Kieffer Punter with 12.
Carver (0-3) was led by Dyllon Scott, who had 15 points. The Cougars only shot 28 percent from the floor, turned the ball over 31 times.
Freshman Nate Tshimanga got his first start in the cardinal and white, opening the game with the first two points and his first two points of his Trojan career. He continued to play a pivotal role throughout, finishing with 8 points on 3-3 shooting, three rebounds, and two assists in 11 minutes.
The Trojan newcomers contributed all night as Duke Deen had a game-high nine assists and five steals. Efe Odigie and Rifen Miguel got on the score sheet as well.
Head Coach Scot Cross:
"Duke Deen was phenomenal," Cross said. "He set the unselfish tone. He got shots for everyone, and we got open shots because of him. He played all-around great defense. We are very fortunate to have him and to have an extremely efficient game in your first game as a Trojan is special.

Notable:
- The last time the Trojans defeated an opponent by more than 50 points was on December 12, 2020, when they beat Carver by 53 points.
- Trojans finished the night shooting 62 percent from the field.
- All 16 Trojans that entered the game recorded at least one point Tuesday night.
- The last time the Trojans scored 104 points was on November 30, 2019, against Shorter University
- Freshmen Kirk Cole made his Trojan debut at the 1:10 mark of the first half and scored his first collegiate points with 1:40 in the second half. And freshman DJ Roberts made his Trojan Debut at 2:40 minute mark of the second half hitting a three with 25 seconds left.
- Trojans had 42 bench points and 54 points in the paint.
