Men's Golf Off to Strong Start at Battle at Black Creek

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Will McFadden continued his strong start to the season with a pair of under-par rounds to lead Troy in Monday's opening two rounds of the Battle at Black Creek at the Black Creek Club. Troy is tied for fifth place in the 17-team field.
McFadden carded six birdies and an eagle during his 36 holes on Monday as the Troy junior shot 2-under 70 in both rounds and finds himself in a tie for sixth place overall. He finished the day 1-under on the par-4 holes and 3-under on the par-5 tracks.
Troy shot 2-under as a team in each round and finds itself 10 shots back of UT Martin for the team title. Chattanooga is four shots back in second, followed by Tennessee Tech and Southern Miss. McFadden is three shots off the individual lead.
George Burch is tied for 28th place at 1-over with rounds of 72 and 73 on his card for the day with a combined eight birdies, while Brantley Scott is tied for 38th place at 2-over. Scott led the field with 28 pars on his 36 holes as he shot 74 and 72.
Jake Springer is tied for 50th place after an up-and-down day. The Trojan freshman was in third place following the first round as he carded four birdies and an eagle en route to a 2-under 70, but 6-over 78, which included a quad-bogey on the same hole he eagled in the first round. Nicklas Borrmann turned in an opposite result as he shot 79 in the opening round and a 1-under 71 in the afternoon session to sit tied for 62nd place.
Teams will play in foursomes for Tuesday's final round with Troy paired with Western Kentucky, South Dakota State and Stetson for the shotgun start.
