Poppell Fires 5-Under to Lead Troy on Day Two of Argent Financial Classic

CHOUDRANT, La. – Lee Poppell fired a 5-under 67 to lead Troy on day two of the Argent Financial Classic at the Squire Creek Country Club on Monday. The Trojans are in third place, just four shots back of the lead.
Poppell carded five birdies and an eagle on his back nine (Troy started on No. 10), shooting 6-under on his final nine holes for his best round of the early season. He climbed 18 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for fourth place. Poppell is tied for fourth in the field with 10 birdies through his first 36 holes.
North Texas climbed six spots on the team leaderboard into the lead after shooting 14-under as a team on Monday. Louisiana Tech matched Troy's 5-under and sits a shot in front of the Trojans in second.
Troy's 5-under marks its fifth straight round under-par to open the season; the Trojans lead the field, shooting 2-over on the par 4s and are second with 38 birdies. Troy's four counting golfers shot 8-under on the back nine.
Pablo Gracia added a 2-under 70, thanks to five birdies, to climb a spot into a tie for seventh place, while Thomas Crane shot 71 and is tied for 10th place. Jack Lowery fell into a tie for 27th after shooting a 75 and Lawton Emblom is tied for 61st place after a 76 on Monday.
Teams close out play Tuesday with one final round.
