Notes: Women's Basketball to Host App State Saturday

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4 when they host the Mountaineers of Appalachian State to close out the opening weekend of Sun Belt Conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Trojan Arena.
Troy Trojans (10-2, 1-0 SBC)

The Trojans enter Saturday's contest against App State on a 7-game winning streak after defeating Coastal Carolina 84-77 on Thursday night. Jasmine Robinson led the Trojans in scoring with 15-points while Kate Rodgers, Harriet Winchester and Alexus Dye got after it on the boards, each grabbing nine rebounds. In the contest Troy built a 24-point lead in the third-quarter, before Coastal stormed back to make the game interesting before Troy's clutch free throw shooting once again closed the door on its opponent. In the game Troy shot 75 percent from the free throw line, highlighted by Tiyah Johnson going 6-for-6. It was Johnson's sixth game this season posting a perfect line at the charity stripe.

• App State is first in the Sun Belt and 44th in the country in fewest fouls given up. See if the Mountaineers can stay out of foul trouble against a Troy team that is sixth in the country in free throw attempts.
• Appalachian is leading the league in defensive rebound percentage (759). Watch if the Black and Gold can keep Troy off the glass on the offensive end. The Trojans average a nation-high 23.5 offensive rebounds per game.

• Troy jumped 16 spots in the latest RPI rankings from 56 to 40. Troy is the only Sun Belt school ranked inside the top 100
• The Trojans will look to extend its season long winning streak to eight games on Saturday, tying the longest winning streak in Chanda Rigby's career. Under Rigby, Troy has had an 8-game winning streak three times (18-19, 15-16, 14-15)
• Troy will look to improve to 2-0 in SBC play for the fourth year in a row
• From the free throw line this season Tiyah Johnson is 22-of-23 with 22 consecutive makes. Her lone miss came on her very first attempt as a Trojan against Fort Valley State. Johnson ranks second in the SBC with a free throw percentage of 95 percent
• Amber Rivers continues her senior year on a quest for 1000 career points. The senior has scored 956 points so far and is averaging 9.4 points per game in the 102 career games she has played in. This season Rivers is averaging 8.8 points per game
• Troy put together a perfect month of December after posting an unblemished 6-0 record. The 6 victories also improved their record in the month to 9-1 since the 2018-19 season
• Troy's 2019-20 squad became the first team to put together a perfect month (with playing at least 4 games) since being D1 and just the second Troy team to ever do it. The other team to do it was the 1992-93 squad who won 10-games in the month of January
• In their last 48 Sun Belt Conference home games, Troy has earned 39 wins to just nine losses dating back to the 2014-15 season. They have gone 8-1 in home SBC games in each of the last two seasons and are currently on a 5-game winning streak
• In the last two season's Troy has posted a 9-2 record when at least one player scores 20 or more points
• Jasmine Robinson has been the most improved Trojan in terms of scoring from last season to this season. Robinson is scoring 13.0 points per game this season after scoring just 6.5 a year ago. The 6.5 point improvement is the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference among the league's top 15 scorers. She ranks 13th in the SBC in scoring this season
• Troy is one of just two schools in the SBC to have three players inside the top 20 for scoring average. Kayla Robinson ranks 11th (13.4 ppg), Jasmine Robinson ranks 13th (13.0 ppg) and Japonica James ranks 2oth (11.1 ppg). Coastal Carolina is the other

• Troy was picked to finish second in the Sun Belt Conference by the league's head coaches. Troy received 123 points and four first-place votes. Little Rock was picked to finish first
• Since the grand opening of Trojan Arena back in 2012 Troy has earned a 72-29 record inside the state-of-the-art facility. They've won five straight games inside Trojan Arena
