TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball hits the road for the second time in Sun Belt play as they travel to Statesboro, Ga. to take on Georgia Southern on Thursday at the Hanner Fieldhouse. Tip-off for Thursday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CT).
Troy Trojans (12-3, 3-1 SBC)
PPG: 80.0 | REB: 54.6 | FG%: .356 | 3FG%: .276 | FT%: .706
The Trojans had their 9-game winning streak snapped last Saturday at the hands of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a game that started at 11 a.m., instead of the original time of 2 p.m., due to severe weather in the area. In the contest, Troy shot 37 percent from the field while Louisiana shot a season-high 44 percent from the field and a season-high 83 percent from the free throw line. Troy enters the weekend averaging a Sun Belt best 80.0 points per game while shooting 36 percent from the field. Jasmine Robinson leads the way for the Trojans with 13.7 ppg. She is joined by Kayla Robinson (11.2) and Japonica James (10.6) as double-digit scorers this season. On the defensive side Troy has done a good job shutting down the opponents best offensive threat as Harriet Winchester has turned into on of the best on-ball defenders in the Sun Belt. As a team they are holding opponents to 36 percent shooting and just 27 percent from behind-the-arc.
Georgia Southern Eagles (5-10, 2-2 SBC)
PPG: 63.0 | REB: 40.7 | FG%: .364 | 3FG%: .260 | FT%: .715
Georgia Southern enters the third full week of conference play with a 5-10 overall record and a 2-2 conference record. The two Ga. Southern wins came against ULM and Louisiana in the opening weekend of the SBC season. GS has only played four home games this season, opposed to 11 either on the road or at a neutral site. In those two home games Ga. Southern is 2-2, with both losses coming at the start of the season. Over the holiday break Ga. Southern joined Troy in Las Vegas at the Holiday Hoops Classic. While in Las Vegas GS went 1-1 with a loss to Kent State (48-62) and a win over St. Francis Brooklyn (78-47). This past weekend Georgia Southern lost two close road games, to Little Rock (46-58) and Arkansas State (62-69).
