Troy Set to Open 2020 Season at Vulcan Invitational

TROY, Ala. – The Troy track and field team will open its 2020 indoor season Saturday at UAB's Vulcan Invitational. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. and will continue all day at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The 22-team lineup for the Vulcan Invitational includes Texas State, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, FIU, Lipscomb, Savannah State and Arkansas State. Several clubs will also be competing at the invitational.

The Troy women will look to build off their top-three finish at last year's Sun Belt Championships. Kara Coulter, Michaela Ashley and Summer Williams will be the first Trojans on the track this season, running in the 5000m at 9:15 a.m.
"We've lost some key members of the team to graduation, but we are still a very strong team," Director Marc Davis said. "This week is step one in the process and we are excited to get the season underway."
On the men's side, Jared Hayes will kick things off in the second heat of the 60m dash at 10 a.m. while Quinest Bishop will run in heat five. The Men's 4x400m relay will close out the day at 6:15 p.m. The Trojans will have a squad in heats one and four of the event.
"We are taking a smaller number of athletes, but we are taking quality athletes," Davis said. "We have some huge goals this year and the journey starts Saturday."
