Troy picks up four wins on day one of competition

Singles/Doubles Draws Day 2

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Troy men's tennis program sent four individuals to Chattanooga, Tenn. to compete in the three-day UTC Invitational with the Trojans posting an impressive start to the 2019-20 season.

Competition on Friday started about a half hour late as a near city wide water outage delayed the start of the tournament for a half-hour.

Troy will be well represented in the 32-man singles main draw on Saturday. Senior Oskar Michalek advanced to the round of 32 after a first-round bye and a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Chattanooga's Jacob Marshall. Freshman Carles Anton also advanced to the second round via a bye before picking up his first collegiate victory with a 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10) victory over UAB's Giovani Pasini.

Christopher Tasker earned his first win of the 2019-20 season with a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (8) victory over ETSU's Dimitri Badra. Freshman Javier Llinares also earned his first collegiate victory on Friday with his 6-2, 6-4 victory over EIU's Max Pilipovic. Tasker and Llinares would fall in the second round.

Troy advanced both doubles teams to Saturday's second round. The duo of Michalek and Llinares advanced with a bye while the pair of Anton and Tasker defeated UAB's Pasini and El Safadi 8-7 (2).
