Troy will travel to Chattanooga to compete in the three-day UTC Invitational
Singles/Doubles Draws
TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team will open the fall portion of their season in Chattanooga, Tenn. at the Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Championships. The three-day event will begin on Friday, Sept. 13 and be played at the Manker Patten Tennis club.
Second-year head coach Rolando Vargas will be taking senior Oskar Michalek, junior Christopher Tasker and freshmen Carles Anton and Javier Llinares to the three-day tournament.
Michalek, the lone senior on this year's roster, will be looking to build off a strong spring season that saw Michalek post a 15-8 record, including an impressive 13-4 mark at No. 2 singles.
Tasker, who joins Michalek as the lone upperclassmen competing at the event, will also be looking to continue the success he found last spring in the first event of the year. Tasker ended last season with a 15-5 overall singles record and a 9-3 mark at No. 5 singles.
Anton and Llinares are the only freshman on this year's squad. The two rookies both came to Troy from Valencia, Spain.
Coach Vargas on this Weekends Tournament
"I'm looking forward to this tournament. Last year it was a very competitive event with so many good players from different conferences and teams that have done well in their conferences. This will be a good opportunity for us to see some of our new players compete and how they perform on the court. The tournament is a full format event which means they will have to play both singles and doubles for themselves."
"It's going to be very important for us to start strong and make an impact in our very first matches of the tournament and if we do that, the rest will take care of itself. We have to do the first things first correctly and play good doubles with good energy. And at the end of the day we are excited to start the season."
