DADE CITY, Florida – Bianca Lohbauer and Sarah Harrison turned in top 10 performances to lead Troy to a third-place finish at the Spring Break Shootout which concluded with 18 holes on Tuesday at the Lake Jovita Country Club. Troy finished with a school record 866 over the 54-hole event.
The third-place finish is Troy's third in six events this year and the Trojans also have a fourth-place standing on the year. The Trojans shot a 14-over 866 as a team in the three-round event, which is their best 54-hole score of the season by 21 strokes.
"I'm proud of the way we competed this week, but disappointed that we did not finish the job today," head coach Randy Keck said. "It's exciting to see the hard work we put in over the break play out on the golf course, now we need to continue to improve and take that next step to winning an event."
Lohbauer and Harrison both tied for seventh place overall with a 2-over 215; the best 54-hole scores of the year by a Trojan golfer. Harrison fired a 2-over 73 in Tuesday's final round with four birdies after shooting a school record 65 in round two. She finished the tournament with 14 birdies, good for second in the field.
After a pair of under par rounds on Monday, Lohbauer shot a 6-over 77 in the final round as she was unable to find a birdie all day. However, the finish was her second top 10 performance and third in the top 25 in six events this year.
Florida Gulf Coast and Western Kentucky tied at the top of the leaderboard but FGCU took home the team title due to the fifth-player tiebreaker. Troy picked up 12 victories in the 15-team field including wins over a trio of Sun Belt foes – Arkansas State, Little Rock and ULM.
Freshman Anna Claire Little had the best tournament of her young career with a 5-over 218 which is 19 shots better than her previous low. Little tied for 14th place in the event following a 3-over 74 on Tuesday.
Nicole Lorup rebounded from a difficult two rounds on Monday to fire even par in the final round with a pair of birdies and climb 19 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 35th place. Judith Castro rounded out the field for the Trojans in a tie for 43rd place at 12-over for the tournament.
Troy returns to action in just over a week when it travels to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico for the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational hosted by Iowa.
