Roberta Alvarez Named Sun Belt Women’s Golfer of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy's Roberta Alvarez has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Thursday afternoon. A first-year player, Alvarez shared the honor with James Madison's Bella Flores after the pair tied at the Pirate Collegiate Classic earlier this week.
Alvarez's honor marks the Trojans' second this season, following Manya Saini's receipt of the year's initial award last season.
A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Alvarez shot 4-under to finish tied for sixth in just her second collegiate tournament. She carded 14 birdies over 54 holes, tied for third most in the field, and was second in the field on the par 5s, playing them to a combined 7-under.
Alvarez opened the week shooting a 3-under 69 in Monday's first round and followed with a 2-under 70 in the second round Monday afternoon. She leads Troy with a 72.00 stroke average and 0.50 score vs. par after the first two events of the year.
Troy returns to action Oct. 12 and 13 at the Lady Red Wolves Classic, hosted by Arkansas State at the Sage Meadows Country Club.
