Alvarez Tied for Second to Lead Troy on Day One of Pirate Collegiate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Troy's youth movement continued Monday as first-year Roberta Alvarez is tied for second after shooting 5-under in the opening two rounds of the Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina at the Greenville Country Club.

Alvarez carded 10 birdies over her 36 holes, tied for the second-most in the field, and was 5-under on the par 5s. Troy is tied for eighth place as a team, just eight shots back of a top-five finish. A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Alvarez shot a 3-under 69 in the morning session and followed with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon.

Troy finished with 24 birdies on the day, good for sixth in the field, and was 9-under as a team on the par 5s, fourth best.

Manya Saini, the reigning Sun Belt Golfer of the Week, is tied for 26th at 3-over after rounds of 74 and 73 on Monday. She carded three birdies and an eagle on the 18th and final hole of round one, then followed with five birdies in the second round.

NC State shot 8-under and holds a 7-shot lead over East Carolina. UNC Greensboro is third at 2-over, App State is 3-over, and Longwood is 6-over.

Mara Dajer is tied for 42nd place at 7-over after rounds of 76 and 75, while Anna Roldan Sewald is tied for 49th, two shots back, following a 74 in the morning and 79 in the afternoon. Evelyn Tankersley rounded out the lineup for Troy in a tie for 74th at 18-over.

Troy will play Tuesday's final round along with Jacksonville State and James Madison, beginning on hole one at 6:45 a.m. (CT).
