DADE CITY, Florida – Sarah Harrison fired the lowest round school history and Bianca Lohbauer carded the second-lowest 36-hole total in school history to lead Troy to a first place standing on Monday at the Spring Break Shootout at the Lake Jovita Golf Club.
Troy shot a 4-under 280 in Monday's second round to take the team lead following 36 holes of play. The 280 ranks as the second-lowest round in school history only behind a 276 shot by Troy in the spring of 2016 (par 72 course). Lohbauer shot rounds of 1-under and 3-under on the par-71 course and sits tied for second place and just a shot off the pace.
"I felt that we had an opportunity to play that well during the first round with the way we started," head coach Randy Keck said. "We were striking the ball well but then we really struggled during the middle of the round – they looked nervous. We got rid of the nerves in the second round, settled in and really got comfortable. We were suddenly on offense playing for birdies instead of being defensive."
Harrison, who is tied for ninth place, carded eight birdies and two bogeys in her record-setting round and shot an incredible 5-under 30 on the front nine. Her round of 65 is tied with Fátima Fernández Cano for the lowest in Troy history; Cano shot a 6-under 65 on a par-71 course during the 2014-15 season. Harrison and Cano also hold the record for lowest round under par with their 6-under tally.
"It showed a lot about her character to bounce back after her first round," Keck said. "I challenged her midway through her first round to finish even par by the end of the day. She went to that last hole needing a birdie to get even and she stuffed it; that says a lot about her."
Lohbauer sank 10 birdies over her 36 holes on Monday and finished the second round with four birdies after opening with a bogey on No. 1. Her 138 following two rounds is tied with Cano's 138 (par 72 course) from the 2016-17 season for the second-best 36-hole mark in Troy history.
Anna Claire Little is tied for 15thplace at 2-over after five birdies on the day, while Judith Castro is tied for 25thplace at 5-over and Nicole Lorup is tied for 54thplace at 10-over.
The Trojans will hit the course Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. (CT) as the teams will once again play a shotgun start. Troy will hit the course with Florida Gulf Coast and Western Kentucky in the lead pairing.
