TROY, Alabama – Following a long layoff, the Troy women's golf team opens its spring schedule on Monday and Tuesday at the Spring Break Shootout at the Lake Jovita Golf Club in Dade City, Fla.
The Trojans are coming off an up-and-down fall campaign, but Troy ended with some momentum as it finished fourth at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship in the final event of the fall. The 15-team field at the Spring Break Shootout will face a par-71 course at 6,056 yards.
"I feel really good about where we are," head coach Randy Keck said. "We want teams to work hard in the offseason and make improvements, and I feel like we did that. We had a great practice round today, and I'm looking forward to a good spring."
Troy turned in a pair of third-place finishes to go along with its performance at the Idle Hour in the fall. Freshman Nicole Lorup led Troy in four of the five events and finished her first fall at the collegiate level with a 73.87 stroke average and three rounds under par.
Seniors Bianca Lohbauer and Sarah Harrison turned in near identical fall seasons with stroke averages of 75.80 and 75.83, respectively. Lohbauer enters her final semester with the second-lowest career stroke average in school history with a 75.87 mark, while Harrison sits third with a 76.26 mark for her Troy career.
"We had to spend some time in the fall developing our team chemistry due to the turnover in roster," Keck said. "Teams don't bond overnight and now that we have established some chemistry you can see it in the way the players treat each other. We're a team that is going to drive the ball off the tee and hopefully set up some good birdie opportunities."
Judith Castro will get the call in the spring opener for the Trojans after posting the second-best final round average in the fall with a 75.50 mark to go with her 78.83 overall average. Anna Claire Little will make her fourth appearance of the season after posting a 79.33 average in the fall.
The Field
Troy, Little Rock, Ohio, Ball State, Samford, Arkansas State, Jacksonville, ULM, Austin Peay, Southern Illinois, Oakland, Belmont, Illinois State, Western Kentucky and Florida Gulf Coast.
T-Time
Teams are set for a shotgun start on Monday beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with the Trojans opening on holes one through three in a pairing with Western Kentucky and Florida Gulf Coast.
