Trojans Set for Sun Belt Conference Tournament

TROY, Ala. – Troy is set to open its third-straight Sun Belt Conference tournament in San Marcos, Texas this weekend. The Trojans will face the winner of No. 5 Louisiana and No. 8 Arkansas State Friday at 5 p.m. in Strahan Arena.

The Matchup: No. 4 Troy (21-8, 10-6 Sun Belt) vs. No. 5 Louisiana/No. 8 Arkansas State

Trojan Storylines

Troy's No. 4 seed is its highest seed in the tournament since 2012, when Troy was the No. 2 seed.
The Trojans went 2-1 against the teams on its side of the bracket during the regular season.
Troy is 3-7 all-time at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with its last victory coming in 2017 when the No. 8 seed Trojans upset No. 5 South Alabama in the First Round, 3-2. The Trojans are chasing their 22nd win of the year which would be the most since 1995 (27-11).
Amara Anderson and Cheyenne Hayes were each named First Team All-Sun Belt earlier this week. This marks the first time since Troy joined the conference in 2005 that a Trojan garnered first-team honors.
BALANCED ATTACK: Five Trojans posted double digit kills in Sunday's match against App State. Cheyenne Hayes (14), Ashley Guenveur (14), Halston Hillier (14), Julia Brooks (11) and Caitlin Cooper (11) all had impressive matches. All five are averaging over 2.00 kills/set this season.
Amara Anderson led the league in both total assists (1,208) and assists per set (11.50). She ends the regular season as the only player in the league ranked in the top 10 nationally in each category, ranking seventh in total assists and 10th in assists per set. As only a sophomore, Anderson is already seventh on Troy's all-time assists list with 2,425.

Road to the Finals
No. 5 Louisiana
Troy defeated Louisiana 3-1 on Oct. 12 in their lone regular season matchup. The Ragin' Cajuns enter the tournament as one of the hottest teams in the league, however, winning their last five regular season matches. Louisiana finished with a 10-6 conference record and second place in the West Division. Dree'Ana Abram led the Ragin' Cajuns with 15 kills in the teams' first matchup this season.

No. 8 Arkansas State
Troy picked up a 3-1 victory over the Red Wolves in the teams' only regular season matchup. Arkansas State defeated ULM in its regular season finale to clinch a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Red Wolves enter the tournament with a 16-12 (7-9 Sun Belt) record. Timber Terrell led Arkansas State with 12 kills in the teams' Sept. 26 matchup.

No. 1 Texas State
Texas State swept the Trojans in the teams' previous matchup on Oct. 18. The Trojans and Bobcats had a wild first set that saw 15 ties and three lead changes with a score of 57-35 in favor of Texas State. The Bobcats earned the regular season Sun Belt title with a 14-2 conference record. Cheyenne Huskey led Texas State with 18 kills in the teams' first match this season.
