Oxford, Ala. – The Troy women's cross country team finished eighth overall while the men's team finished sixth at the 13th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational on Saturday morning at Choccolocco Sports Complex.
The women tallied 208 points, just four points shy of seventh place with Samford taking first with 22 points in the 19-team field. The men posted 160 points with Samford also taking the team title, scoring just 24 points in the 20-team field.
Freshman Tanner Guest paced the Trojans in the five-kilometer race with a 12th-place finish in a season-best time of 19:20.80. Sophomore Macki Walsh (20:33.00) and freshman Sydney Singletary (20:59.80) rounded out the top-three finishers for Troy, crossing the finish line in 40th and 50th respectively. Singletary's time marks her season best. Freshman Caroline Franklin turned in a season-best time of 21:44.20 which gave her 70th while senior Jenna Oden (79th, 22:05.10) completed the scoring for Troy.
"Tanner had a really nice run and was able to run a PR," head coach Elliott Blount said. "Tanner has responded very well to training. We also had some good efforts from the runners we'll rely on more heavily during track season."
On the men's side, senior Bradley Dixon led the way in his first race of the season, turning in a 28th-place finish in the seven-kilometer race in 23:46.40. Junior Austin Gray followed behind Dixon, finishing in 36th in 24:09.10. Sophomore Delaney Moore (41st) finished the race in 24:22.80 to close out the top-three finishers for Troy. Also scoring for the Trojans was freshman Isaiah Eller (44th, 24:28.60) and sophomore Thomas Ward (50th, 24:45.40).
"I would've like to have seen a bit more from a few of the men," Blount said. "How the men that raced today, compete at the conference will have huge impact on our Sun Belt outcome."
