Troy Opens Outdoor Season at Jaguar Classic

TROY, Alabama – Troy brought home eight event wins to kick off the outdoor season the right way at the Jaguar Classic in Mobile this weekend.

The meet featured 12 teams from around the southeast – including UAB, Southern Miss, Mobile and Birmingham Southern.

The Trojans dominated on the women's side of the track with four of their eight wins – Alexis Garrett in the 100-meter hurdles, Krystin Guirey in the 1500-meter, Tiarra Bailey in the 800-meter and the women's 4x400-meter relay.

On the men's side, their 4x400-meter relay team came away with the victory in the event. Individually, Jared Hayes won the 200-meter dash and Daniel Glick went the distance to win the 3000-meter run.

Jaevyn Wortham gave the Trojans their only win in the field events with a 50.76-meter throw in the women's discus.

Troy will look to carry the momentum from the Jaguar Classic to the Alabama Track Challenge hosted by Samford in Birmingham Friday.

Notable
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.

• Troy indoor track and field placed fifth at the conference championships in February, tying for the highest finish in program history – finished fifth twice before.

• No days off. The Trojans will compete in at least one meet each weekend from now until the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas, May 11-13.
