Â
TROY, Alabama – Troy outdoor track and field continues its season with the Alabama Track Challenge hosted by Samford in Birmingham Friday.
Â
The Trojans experienced a good amount of success at the Jaguar Classic last time out, including eight event wins – six individuals and two relay teams.
Â
Freshmen Amir Harris and Jared Hayes are set to lead the Troy men on the track, the two placed first and second in the 200-meter dash in Mobile last weekend. Michael Alvernaz, who was named Sun Belt Male Field Athlete of the Week during the indoor season, will compete in the hammer throw event.
Â
Jaevyn Wortham will look to repeat in the women's discus and Indiya Summerville, the Sun Belt Indoor Shot Put Champion, is aiming to kick off the outdoor season the right way. Newcomers Madison Kennedy and Precious Ogba, two of the members of the women's 4x400-meter relay team that brought home the victory last week, will pace the Trojans on the track.

Quotable – Troy director Marc Davis
We are excited to get back into competition. We had a solid opener on both sides and we need to continue to develop. The rest of our schedule is tough. We set it up that way on purpose. If we as a team are going to take a big step forward, we have to ready to compete at a high level every single week. As I said all of indoor season, this team is ready to make a big name for themselves. They just have to accept that and execute day in and day out.
Â
Notable
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
Â
• Troy indoor track and field placed fifth at the conference championships in February, tying for the highest finish in program history – finished fifth twice before.
Â
• No days off. The Trojans will compete in at least one meet each weekend from now until the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas, May 11-13.
