Meet Info | Start List
TROY, Alabama – Troy track and field will begin its 2018 outdoor season at the Jaguar Classic hosted by rival South Alabama in Mobile Friday and Saturday.
Â
The meet will feature 12 teams from around the southeast – including UAB, Southern Miss, Mobile and Birmingham Southern – and will kick off at 11:30 Friday morning with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
Â
The Trojans head into the outdoor season carrying momentum from a very successful indoor campaign that featured a finish that tied for the best in school history at the Sun Belt Championships in February.
Â
For the momentum to carry over, Troy will look to veteran leadership from student-athletes like Indiya Summerville, Niata Alexander, Hakim Montgomery and Michael Alvernaz.
Â
Summerville broke her own school shot put record four times and went on to win the Sun Belt Championship in the women's shot put event. Alexander medaled in four events at the conference meet – second in the 400, second in the 200, third in the 60 and led the 4x400 relay team to a runner-up finish.
Â
Montgomery and Alvernaz both represented the Trojans at the USA Track and Field Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., last month. Each brought home a top 15 finish in their respective events – Montgomery 15th in the 60-meters and Alvernaz eighth in the weight throw.
Â
Notable
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
Â
• Troy indoor track and field placed fifth at the conference championships in February, tying for the highest finish in program history – finished fifth twice before.
Â
• No days off. The Trojans will compete in at least one meet each weekend from now until the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in San Marcos, Texas, May 11-13.
