Troy Set For Conference Championships

Troy, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams will head to Mobile, Ala., to compete in the 2018 Sun Belt Cross Country Championships hosted by South Alabama at Brookley Field Course. The women will begin the action on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the men following at 11 a.m.

Troy will send a 14-man lineup, equally divided among both teams. Prior to the season, the Troy men's team was selected to finish sixth with UT Arlington taking the title while the women were selected to finish 11th and Texas State taking the crown.

Senior Krystin Guirey will lead the way for the women in Mobile. Guirey has set and broken her personal record in the 6k in her last two races. Sophomore quartet Michaela Ashley, Christie Caruana, Kara Coulter and Macki Walsh will tag along in the five-kilometer race. Rounding out the women are freshmen Caroline Sall and Tanner Guest, both of whom have paced the Trojan lineup in a race this season.

The men will post an experience-laden lineup sending four seniors in Brackin Stewart, Sawyer Sprung, Bradley Dixon and Brennan Garriques. This season, Stewart has paced the Trojans in every race including winning back-to-back races to open the season at the JSU Struts Season Opener and the Azalea City Classic. Stewart also received Sun Belt Runner of the Week honors after taking first at the Azalea City Classic. Joining the seniors in the 8k race are juniors Austin Gray and Daniel Glick. Sophomore Thomas Ward will round out Troy's lineup at the championship.
