Final Results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy indoor track and field wrapped up competition in the Emory CrossPlex Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex Sunday evening. The Trojans finished eighth among the 23 teams that participated in the meet.
Â
Indiya Summerville continued her hot streak in the women's shot put, throwing out to 15.95 meters and breaking her own school record for the third meet in a row. Â The toss was good enough to warrant a second-place finish in the event.
Â
Alexis Garrett won the 60-meter hurdles and led a charge of four different Trojans that finished in the Top 8 – she completed the event in 8.96 seconds.
Â
Garrett also advanced to the 60-meter dash finals, where she and teammate Camille Franks finished sixth and fifth, respectively. Franks brought home points in the long jump, as well, after a 5.14-meter leap earned her a fourth-place finish.
Â
Troy will be back in action this weekend with a trip to the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Â
Quotable
"We went to the meet with a plan," Troy track and field director Marc Davis said. "The plan was to execute, advance to finals and place high once in the finals. For the most part, we did just that. One of the issues we've had with our young team is finishing. We took a step forward this weekend. Now we need to continue to believe. This upcoming weekend will be a great opportunity to have a full squad performing at a high level."
Â
Notable
• Indiya Summerville continues to rewrite Troy's indoor record books, breaking her own record in the shot put for a third consecutive meet. Michael Alvernaz broke his own school record in the weight throw in each of the first two meets of the season.
Â
• Hakim Montgomery has won four consecutive 60-meter dash finals that he has competed in, dating back to 2016. He also had the fastest time in the qualifying rounds of all three competitions last season.
Â
• All but one of Troy's seven indoor meets will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex – including the Sun Belt Indoor Championships in February. The lone trip away from Birmingham will come this weekend as the Trojans head to the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem.
Â
• The December 1 meet marked the earliest start in Troy's track and field history.
Â
• Five returning Trojans have NCAA postseason experience entering this year. Junior Hakim Montgomery has earned a trip in each of his first two seasons.
