BOONE, North Carolina – In the second meet of the season, Troy took home another top-two finish as the solid start to the season continued in Boone, N.C. at the Mountain to Sea Cross Country Invitational.
The men's team finished with an average time of 26:14.91 in the 8K to take second place behind only UNC-Chapel Hill. The women's team finished slightly back in taking sixth place with an average time of 19:18.13 in the 5K event.
"I felt both the men and women ran decently well today all things considered," head coach Elliott Blount said. "Our women addressed some of the issues we faced during our last race and it resulted in some personal bests.
"The men continue to show progress and will need to work smarter over the next few weeks to keep with that trend. We must have the men on the tail end of the pack and mature quickly for us to be a viable conference foe."
Five runners on the men's side finished in the top-20 led by Bradley Dixon, who was the top Trojan finisher with a time of 25:59.31 to take home 12th place. Behind him in consecutive order were Daniel Glick, Brackin Stewart, Sawyer Sprung and Brennan Garriques in the 15 through 18 spots.
Christie Caruana, the highest women's finisher in the season opener, again took the top spot with a time of 18:35.21. The freshman was joined by fellow classmates Mackenzie Walsh and Kara Coulter—21st and 27th place, respectively—as top-30 finishers for the Trojans.
