GAINESVILLE, Florida – The women's cross country team went south on Saturday to the Mountain Dew Classic in Gainesville, Fla. and finished in the middle of the pack in 16th place in a competitive meet.
Â
Facing most every university in Florida, Troy finished with a total time of 1:39.18, which was just shy of seven total seconds behind eventual winner Florida.
Â
"We took a small group of women that needed to improve on some things," head coach Elliott Blount said. "There were some mental lapses and poor decisions made, but we saw what we needed to and we will make the proper adjustments. It was a successful meet from a learning standpoint and putting all the pieces together."
Â
As she did in the first two meets of the season, Christie Caruana again took the top spot for Troy on the afternoon with a time of 18:48.3 and an average time of 6:02.8. The freshman finished in 25th place, which marked a top-25 finish in all three meets this season for her.
Â
The next highest finisher was fellow freshman Mackenzie Walsh at 52nd place with a time of 19:18.9 and a 6:12.6 average mile time. Only six runners raced for Troy on the day.
