Troy Brings Home Eight Medals from Sun Belt Championships

Final Results
ARLINGTON, Texas – Led by Zach Douglas' victory in the discus event, Troy outdoor track and field earned eight medals at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships this past weekend.
Troy's men's team scored 63 points to finish seventh and the women scored 44 points to place eighth at this year's conference championship.
MALE PERFORMER OF THE MEET
Zach Douglas – Nearing the completion of a decorated throwing career, Douglas won a pair of medals at this year's championship. Douglas, the defending conference champion in the shot put event, started off his competition with an 18.13-meter shot put throw to earn the silver medal in the event. He followed the second-place finish with a victory in the discus – throwing 54.25 meters to secure the conference title.
Five more medals were collected on the men's side of competition, starting with Michael Alvernaz. Alvernaz finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 59.77 meters. Connor Brookman followed with a third place finish of his own after throwing the javelin out to a personal best 62.75 meters.
Jumpers Myles Charley and Titus Sizemore earned medals with a silver in the long jump and a bronze in the high jump, respectively – Sizemore's 2.09-meter high jump was a new personal best. Daniel Glick also earned a spot on the podium with a third place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase event.
The Trojans also gathered points in the triple jump and 110-meter hurdles. Isaac Jennings finished sixth with a personal record 15.01-meter triple jump, while Myles Charley finished seventh in the event. In the 110-meter hurdles, Garrison Floyd finished fifth in 14.27 seconds and Casimir Tawiah finished eighth in 14.62 seconds.
FEMALE PERFORMER(S) OF THE MEET
Niata Alexander – Alexander ran a personal record time of 54.13 seconds in the 400-meter dash to earn a silver medal. Following this feat, she returned to the track to run another personal record of 23.83 seconds in the 200-meter dash but fell short of the medal stand – finishing fourth.
Riley Schwietz – Schwietz competed in the heptathlon and javelin throw events at the championships. In the javelin, she threw for a personal record 41.75 meters to finish seventh in the event. Over a two-day span, she competed in the seven events that compose the heptathlon and ended the competition with a personal record score of 4501 points, which was good enough for sixth place.
Competing alongside Schwietz in the heptathlon, Aleeah Stigarll placed eighth in the event to score for Troy. Helga Volgyi earned a sixth place finish in the hammer throw and Corina Wieser-Cox placed fifth in the discus. Alexis Garrett (100-meter hurdles), Gabrielle Henderson (100-meter dash), Gemma Finch (800-meter dash) and Tiarra Bailey (2:15.48) each earned points for the Trojans in their respective events.
The 4x100-meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 46.52 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay team also finished fifth in a time of 3:47.82.
