Troy Falls to Georgia State in Series Opener

ATLANTA, Georgia – A five run seventh inning propelled Georgia State past Troy, 9-3, in the Sun Belt series opener Thursday night at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The Trojans (17-15, 5-8) led by two after the first inning but were not able to sustain that lead, as Georgia State outscored Troy 9-1 in the next six innings to snap an 11-game losing streak.
Matt Sanders and Brandon Lockridge both turned in a two-hit game for Troy. Sanders reached base all four times that he stepped to the plate – finishing 2-for-2 with a double and two walks. Lockridge ended 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to a career-long 17 games.
Corey Childress (2-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings of work.
The Panthers (12-21, 2-11) led 4-3 going into the seventh before exploding for five runs on five hits, including a two-run blast from Darius Sewell – who finished the game 3-for-4.
Reliever Jansen Acton (1-0) earned his first win of the season after only scattering a hit and walking two in two innings on the mound.

"We had chances to go up big early but we didn't execute," Troy head coach Mark Smartt said. "We didn't pitch well enough, we struck out too much and left a pile of runners out there. We're in for a dogfight this weekend, but our team will be ready for tomorrow night."
