TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team hits the road for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Georgia State beginning Thursday night in Atlanta. The series is bumped up a day due to Easter Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. (CT) on Thursday and Friday with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.
Â
The Trojans (17-14, 5-7 Sun Belt) snapped Alabama State's 10-game winning streak on Tuesday night after handing Georgia Southern just its second loss over a 10-game stretch on Sunday.
Â
Troy got outstanding starting pitching from Houston Mabray (4.0 IP, 0 ER) and solid relief work from Jimmy Robbins and Marc Skinner in Tuesday's victory. Robbins struck out three over 1.1 scoreless innings, while Skinner recorded his Sun Belt leading eighth save of the season with a pair of strikeouts in his inning of work.
Â
Skinner enters the weekend fourth among active players in the country with 98 career appearances and 24th with 16 career saves. He is just three saves shy of setting the Troy career record and five appearances short of setting that record as well.
Â
Sophomore second baseman Brandon Lockridge is in the midst of the second 16-game hitting streak of his career as he leads the Trojans batting at a .341 clip on the season. He has reached base safely in all 31 games this season.
Â
Trevor Davis' 13 extra-base hits lead the Trojans, while Matt Sanders enters the weekend ranked ninth nationally as he strikes out just once every 21.0 at-bats. The Trojans have shown an increased patience at the plate over the recent weeks as they have drawn an average of 6.7 walks per game over the past six contests compared to 4.52 the previous 25 games.
Â
Troy's Opening Day starter Corey Childress (2-2, 6.58) will reprise his role at the front of Troy's rotation against the Panthers. Decatur, Ga., native Daren Osby (4-3, 4.47) will get the call on Friday, while Austin Crook (4-1, 3.49) is scheduled to start the finale.
Â
Georgia State (11-21, 1-11) has dropped 11 straight games entering this weekend's series; however, the Panthers have a victory over Ole Miss this season.
Â
Devin Vainer (0-0, 2.25) will make just his second start of the season when he toes the rubber for the series opener, while Bryce Conley (2-6, 6.07) and Hunter Gaddis (3-3, 3.12) will start the final two games, respectively.
