ATLANTA, Georgia – Jarrett Hood ripped a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift Georgia State past Troy, 3-2, at the GSU Baseball Complex Friday night.

The Trojans (17-16, 5-9) dropped the Sun Belt series in heart-breaking fashion despite two outstanding performances on the mound from Daren Osby and Marc Skinner – as Troy left 19 runners on base in the game.

Osby got the nod to start for Troy and delivered six one-hit shutout innings. Skinner (2-3) suffered a tough-luck loss – allowing the game-winning run and scattering four hits while striking out eight in 5.2 innings of work.

Steven Whitaker was responsible for three of the Trojans' seven hits in the game – going 3-for-5 with a double and two walks. Justin Friend blasted his team-leading fourth home run to lead off the fourth inning.

Georgia State (13-21, 3-11) battled back to win their first Sun Belt series of the season. The Panthers were held to only one hit in regulation – scoring two runs on a throwing error in the seventh.

Jarrett Hood finished 1-for-5 but made it count by driving in the game-ending run. Tanner Thomson (2-3) did not allow a run on two hits while fanning three in three innings on the mound to earn the win for the Panthers.

"It was a tough loss," Troy head coach Mark Smartt said. "Our kids fought hard but had nothing to show for it. We're just not getting it done, but tomorrow is a new day and another opportunity to score."
