TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Troy cross country will compete in the NCAA South Regionals on Friday with the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
The meet will kick off with the women's 6,000 meter event at 9 a.m. followed by the men's 10,000 meter race at 10 a.m. Both races will have live stats broadcast by Prime Time Timing.
Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala. will be the site of this year's competition. It has been the home for the University of Alabama cross country team since 2003 and is a flat to rolling all-grass surface with limited cart path crossings.
There will be 34 teams competing on the men's side and 41 on the women's side with five nationally-ranked teams and 31 regionally-ranked teams including in-state competition in Alabama, Auburn, Alabama State, South Alabama and Samford.
Troy most recently competed in the Sun Belt Championships on Oct. 28 in Boone N.C. The men took home sixth place while the women came in 10th. It marked just the second time all season the men's team was outside of the top-two.
Brennan Garriques, Sawyer Sprung, Brackin Stewart, Daniel Glick and Bradley Dixon lead a youth-heavy team that does not have a senior on the roster. Stewart was the top-finisher at the Sun Belt Championships with a time of 25:52.5 for 17th place.
On the women's end, it has been a bright year for the freshmen on the roster. Christie Caruana, who recently returned from injury, finished in the top position for Troy in three of her four races. Kara Coulter and Mackenzie Walsh have both finished in the top-10 this season.
