Masters Leads Troy on Day One at The Grove

COLLEGE GROVE, Tennessee – As teams battled the remnants of Hurricane Nate, Troy shot a 25-over 313 to sit in 10th place following Sunday's opening round of the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove. Junior Calum Masters fired a 2-over 74 in subpar playing conditions to lead the Trojans on the day.
Troy opened the round on the back nine and Masters made the turn at 1-under after birdies on No. 10 and the par-5, 18th; the Trojans sank three birdies as a team on the 581-yard No. 18. Masters sat 3-over after a double-bogey and two bogeys before a birdie on No. 7 settled his card a 2-over, good for a tie for 14th place.
Ike Alexander is tied for 29th place overall after carding a pair of birdies en route to a 5-over 77, while Jake Tiffin and Dean Martin are tied for 53rd place at 9-over. Tiffin had a pair of birdies in his first round of the season and Martin added a single birdie – on No. 18 – in his round. Connor Futrell had a pair of birdies, but ran into some trouble around the turn and is in 61st place after shooting an 83.
Ole Miss shot 1-under and leads host Middle Tennessee by five shots, while Georgia Tech is 10 shots back in third and Kennesaw State is 14 back in fifth position. Ole Miss' Josh Seiple and Middle Tennessee's Tyler Johnson shot a 2-under 70 and are tied for the individual lead.
Troy will play the second round alongside Sun Belt rival UL Lafayette. The first twosome will hit the course beginning at 8 a.m. on the 10th hole.
