TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's golf team returns to the site of its 2017 NCAA Regional appearance when it travels to College Grove, Tenn., this weekend for the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove. Teams will play 18 holes Sunday, Monday and Tuesday on the par-72, 7,368-yard course.
The Trojans finished sixth in the NCAA Regional this past spring at The Grove, just one spot off qualifying for the NCAA Championship field. However, four of the five Trojans who competed in that NCAA Regional have moved on with the lone holdover being junior Calum Masters, who shot an 8-over 224 to tie for 39th place in the Regional.
Masters has led the Trojans in their first two events of the season with a 74.0 stroke average and all six rounds counting towards the team card. Transfer Dean Martin and freshman Connor Futrell are tied for second on the team with a 75.5 stroke average; Futrell has Troy's lone round under par this season after shooting a 1-under at the Shoal Creek Invitational.
Freshman Ike Alexander improved by six shots in his second collegiate tournament and carries a 76.17 stroke average into The Grove, while sophomore Jake Tiffin will make his season debut. Tiffin posted a 76.73 stroke average last season, but was strong in the spring with a 73.83 card and three match play victories over opponents from Georgia and North Florida (both ranked in the top 35 nationally).
The Field
College of Charleston, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Liberty, UL Lafayette,
Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Dakota State, South Florida and Troy.
T-Time
Teams will be in twosomes to open play on Sunday. Troy will play with South Dakota State in the opening round with the first group hitting the course at 9:20 a.m. on the back nine.
