Men’s Golf Solid on Day Two of FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove

COLLEGE GROVE, Tennessee – Paced by a pair of under-par rounds, the Troy men's golf team fired a 2-over 290 in Monday's second round of the FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove to move up a spot on the leaderboard into a tie for ninth place. Troy's round was the fifth-best on the day and 23 shots better than its opening round total.
Ike Alexander opened his day with three straight birdies and shot to 4-under with another birdie on the par-5 No. 2 after making the turn. Three straight bogeys pushed his card to 1-over, but the Trojan freshman dropped a birdie on No. 7 to close out his round at 2-under. He jumped 13 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 16th place.
Connor Futrell also made a large climb up the leaderboard as he moved 16 spots into a tie for 45th after shaving 12 strokes off his opening round total. Futrell carded five birdies on the day en route to a 3-under 70 on the afternoon.
Calum Masters matched his opening round score with a 2-over 74 and slipped four spots into a tie for 18th place despite a round which featured five birdies. Dean Martin climbed a spot into a tie for 52nd place as he was six shots better than his opening round with a 3-over 75, while Jake Tiffin is in 65th place after shooting an 82 on Monday.
Ole Miss will carry a one-shot lead over Georgia Tech into Tuesday's final round, while Middle Tennessee is 10 shots back in third place. Troy is three shots behind South Florida for eighth and 13 back of Liberty for a top-five finish.
Tuesday's final round will pit Troy and Sun Belt rival UL Lafayette together beginning at 8:40 a.m.
