Men’s Golf Opens Season at The Invitational at The Ocean Course

TROY, Alabama – The defending Sun Belt Conference champion Troy men's golf team opens its 2016-17 season at The Invitational at The Ocean Course hosted by College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Resort. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and will finish with 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Trojans return their entire lineup from last year's squad that won the Sun Belt Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year. Troy won a pair of tournament titles during the regular season last year, including knocking off No. 5 Auburn at the Tiger Invitational.
The Lineup
Head coach Matt Terry will send out a familiar lineup for the Trojans to open the season. Seniors Luke Moser, Jared Bettcher, Clayton Vannoy and Cam Norman will be joined by sophomore Calum Masters.
Noteworthy
• Troy's five golfers in the field for the season opener combined to shoot under par in 28.1 percent (45-of-160) of their rounds last season. Luke Moser led the way with 12 rounds under par. Clayton Vannoy had 11, Jared Bettcher had eight, while Calem Masters and Cam Norman each had seven.
• The Trojans played well in the spring last season as they turned in a team scoring average of 289.56 after posting a mark of 292.00 in the fall.
• Troy's five golfers in the field combined for 26 finishes in the top 25 and 15 finishes in the top 15 in Troy's 11 events last season.
The Field
• The rest of the field at The Invitational at the Ocean Course features – College of Charleston, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Middle Tennessee, Georgia State, Francis Marion, Augusta, Cincinnati, Maryland, VCU, Winthrop, South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Charleston Southern Troy will be paired with Augusta, South Alabama and Georgia Southern for the first two rounds and will hit the course beginning at 6:30 a.m. (CDT).
