No. 67 Men’s Golf in Second Following Day One of Tiger Intercollegiate

OPELIKA, Alabama – The No. 67 Troy men's golf team shot 6-under after making the turn and sit in second place following Sunday's opening round of the Tiger Invitational at the Grand National Lake Course.
Troy shot 2-over par as a team on the day and trail only No. 5 Auburn, who finished the opening round 3-under par. Among the teams behind Troy in the standings are No. 25 Kentucky, No. 60 Kennesaw State, No. 61 Kansas State, No. 68 UNC Greensboro, No. 73 Georgia State, No. 75 Ohio State, No. 78 VCU and No. 89 UNC Wilmington.
Birdies were the name of the day for the Trojans as they carded 19 on the day, which was the second-most in the field. Cam Norman led Troy with six birdies in his round, while Jared Bettcher had four.
Luke Moser made the turn at 1-over par, but recorded three birdies on the back nine and just one bogey to card a 1-under 71 in the round. He is tied for sixth place overall and just three shots back of individual leader Matt Gilchrest from Auburn.
After carding four bogeys in his first eight holes, Bettcher ended his round with four birdies after making the turn to finish the day even par and tied for 12th place overall. Norman quickly moved to 2-under with birdies on two of his first three holes of the round. He eventually made the turn at even par and traded three birdies for four bogeys on the back nine. Norman finished the day 1-over par and tied for 23nd place.
Calum Masters joined Bettcher and Luke Moser as Trojans who were under par after making the turn. Masters finished the day with three birdies, two of which came on the back nine; he is 2-over par for the tournament and tied for 28th place. Clayton Vannoy made the turn at 1-under after three birdies, but shot 6-over on the back nine to finish 5-over and tied for 56th place.
Troy leads Minnesota and Kennesaw State by one shot, while Mississippi State and Kentucky are four back in a tie for fifth place.
Play continues Monday with 18 more holes; Troy will tee off in the final paring at 9:15 a.m. along with Auburn and Kennesaw State.
