Troy Soccer Blanks Tennessee Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tennessee – Three different Trojans scored in the match as Troy blanked Tennessee Tech, 3-0, at Tech Soccer Field on Friday for its fourth shutout victory of the year.
Troy (6-2) scored late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Defender Payton Donley scored her first goal of the season in the 43rd minute as Natalie Melillo crossed the ball into the middle of the field from the right side and found Donley for the goal.
Just 10 minutes into the second half the Trojans scored their second goal of the match thanks to Chelsey Williams, who scored her fourth goal of the season. Annabell Simpson found Williams just inside the box and she placed the ball just past the right side of the keeper for the score.
Brooke McKee gave the Trojans an insurance goal in the 89th minutes as Haley Roberson passed the ball in to McKee who scored and gave Troy a 3-0 lead.
"This was a good win for the team, we went out and executed our game plan. Playing on the road is always tough," Jason Hamilton said. "Tennessee Tech is a good team defensively only giving up six goals in their previous seven games. We've been asking our team to be more opportunistic all season and we definitely were today."
Sydnay Tucker (1-0) got the start for Troy and made the most of it with four saves and her first career shutout.
The Trojans outshot the Golden Eagles 13-10. Troy landed eight shots on goal and Tennessee Tech landed four on goal. McKee led all players with six shots in the game, three on goal. Williams and Jasmine Fahrnbauer had two shots apiece.
Troy wraps up non-conference play with a trip to Nashville, Tenn., for a match with Belmont on Sunday at 3 p.m.
