Troy Soccer Ends Non-Conference Schedule with Win at Belmont
9/20/2015 5:38:00 PM | Soccer
NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Troy scored the go-ahead goal just one minute after Belmont tied the game at one, for a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Rose Park.
Haley Roberson scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute for her first goal of the season, and as a Troy Trojan. Roberson found the back of the net off a shot that was deflected inside the box.
Troy (7-2) fired six shots in the first half before Alissa Jones ripped a shot in the 40th minute that landed in the upper left side of the net for the first goal of the game and her third of the season.
"We are extremely proud of the ladies in their effort today. Anytime you can go on the road and win two games it is a very good effort from the team," Jason Hamilton said. "Sunday games are extremely hard because you have been on the road for three or four days. Belmont brought in an amazing amount of energy and we were able to match that energy. Now we will turn our focus to beginning conference play."
Meg Howard scored the lone goal for Belmont (1-7-1) and tied the game at one in the 74th minute as she scored via header in the right corner of the goal.
The Trojans took 15 shots in the match, with 11 landing on goal. Jones led the way with six shots, three on goal. Brooke McKee took three shots and all three landed on goal.
Sydnay Tucker (2-0) earned her second straight start for the Trojans and came up huge with four saves in the match. The Troy defense helped Tucker and only allowed eight shots, six of which came in the first half.
The Trojans return home to take on in-state foe South Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. The Jaguars defeated the Trojans last season in the Sun Belt Tournament championship game to clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
