Troy Soccer Downs Gardner-Webb, Breaks Attendance Record

TROY, Alabama – Abby Reynolds scored twice and Mikki Lewis posted her 12th career shutout, as Troy defeated Gardner-Webb, 2-0, in front of a record crowd at the Troy Soccer Complex in Friday night's season opener.

Friday's game drew 863 fans to break the record set last year against UL Lafayette by almost 250 fans.

Troy (1-0) fired seven shots in the first 25 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net until the 38th minute when Reynolds scored via header off a corner kick from Kirsten Rendall to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Reynolds scored her second goal of the night in the 72nd minute, as she scored off a rebound following a Brooke McKee shot that was saved by Gardner-Webb (0-1) goalie Keely Brown.

Troy fired 16 shots in the game with 10 of them coming in the first half. Alissa Jones led all players with seven shots, three on goal, while Reynolds added three and McKee had a pair.

The Trojan defense only allowed four shots for the duration of the game. Lewis finished with three saves on the night and has allowed just 17 goals in 23 career starts.

The Trojans will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Sunday to face Alabama at 7 p.m. The game will be featured on SEC Network+.
