Troy Soccer Falls on the Road at Alabama
8/23/2015 11:08:00 PM | Soccer
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Troy soccer team fell on the road at Alabama, 1-0, on Sunday night at Alabama Soccer Stadium.
Â
The Trojans (1-1) fired eight shots the entire night, with five of them coming in the second half. However, only two of the eight shots were on goal.
Â
Alissa Jones led the way with two shots and only one on goal. Six different Trojans had one shot in the game, with Layna Hatfield having the other shot on goal. Chelsey Williams had a breakaway in the 53rd minute but a Crimson Tide defender blocked her shot at the last minute.
Â
"We've harped on speed of play. When you're playing teams at this level everything is faster." Jason Hamilton said. "We had one break away and took too long to get the shot off and the defender recovered. The second opportunity we had another break away and took four or five touches inside the 18 and at this level that's not going to happen."
Â
Alabama (1-1) took the lead in the 77th minute with a goal by Alexis Mouton, the fist goal Troy has allowed this season. The Crimson Tide won the shots category with 13 and four on goal.
Â
"We schedule these games to help prepare for our conference. Playing better teams will help prepare us for when we get to the conference games. We are going to play teams that are better than us, but we definitely have to show up for those games and we were a little overwhelmed. "
Â
Mikki Lewis (1-1) had three saves on the night with all of them coming in the first half.
Â
The Trojans will travel to Montgomery for a match with Alabama State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
