Troy Soccer Opens Season at Home on Friday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team will begin its regular season at home against Gardner-Webb on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex.

Coming off its best season in program history, Troy returns nine starters and was picked to finish second in the Sun Belt by the league's coaches. In addition to returning a total of 15 letter winners, the Troy roster features 18 newcomers in 2015.
The Trojans have already played two preseason matches, both on the road, against No. 8 Florida and Murray State. Troy dropped the first exhibition match against the Gators, 2-1, before shutting out Murray State, 3-0, in its final exhibition game last Sunday.
Alissa Jones returns as the Trojans leading scorer and assists leader from a year ago. Jones was the first player in school history to have double-digit goals and assist in one season, as she finished with 12 goals and 10 assists.
Jones, along with Jasmine Fahrnbauer, Payton Donley and Mikki Lewis were all named Preseason All-Sun Belt last week.
The Trojans finished 2014 with a 16-6 overall record, best in program history, and an appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game. Troy's season ended with 21 individual and team records falling, including the school's wins, shutouts and shots records as well as the single-season and single-game attendance records.
The Trojans went 9-0 at home last season and enter Friday's match against Gardner-Webb with a 12-match home winning streak, dating back to 2013.
Gardner-Webb finished last season with an 8-10-2 record. The 2015 squad is predicted to finish seventh in the Big South. The Bulldogs' leading scorer from a season ago, Shelby Hooe, returns having scored eight goals and assisted on four.
