MURRAY, Kentucky – The Troy soccer team scored three goals in the second half to win its final exhibition match, 3-0, against Murray State on Saturday at Cutchin Field.
Â
Jasmine Fahrnbauer scored the first goal of the game in the 50th minute en route to a two-goal performance on the day. The Canton, Ga., native scored her second goal of the game via a header in the 68th minute off a free kick form Layna Hatfield to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
Â
Five minutes later in the 73rd minute, Natalie Melillo gave the Trojans a 3-0 lead as she found the back of the net off a free kick.
Â
"I thought the team played exceptionally well and we're happy with where we are." Jason Hamilton said. "Overall, I was very happy with the performance today and it was a great way to wrap up the preseason and get us ready for next weekends home opener."
Â
Neither team scored in the first half, but Troy missed out on two opportunities as two goals were wiped off the scoreboard due to an offside call.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper, Mikki Lewis, played the entire match and recorded a shutout. The Trojan defense held the Racers to just three shots with only one being on goal throughout the entire match.
Â
Troy will open its regular season against Gardner-Webb on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex.
