Troy Rebounds to Beat App State

ATLANTA – The Troy women's tennis team rebounded from yesterday's Sun Belt loss to beat Appalachian State in another conference match, 5-2, on Friday at Piedmont Park in Atlanta.
Troy (8-8, 2-4) had lost its last three matches overall and its last four Sun Belt matches, but cruised after a tight doubles point on Friday to knock off Appalachian State (8-13, 1-3).
In doubles play, the two sides split at No. 1 and No. 2, including a win by Troy's Trang Huynh and Jiayuan Xue at No. 1 doubles. Sanae Ohta and Anja Cosovic then won at No. 3 doubles in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (3), to clinch the opening point.
Cosovic was forced to retire from her No. 2 singles match, allowing the Mountaineers to tie the match. However, from there the Trojans took a 3-1 lead with straight set wins from Ohta and Huynh.
Ohta beat Mackenzie LaSure at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3, before Huynh beat Clare Cox at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. The win was the 10th straight from Huynh in singles play.
After App State won a straight-set match at No. 5, the Trojans won two three-set matches to clinch the win. Linnea Skymberg gave Troy the win with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles and Xue made the final score 5-2 with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 4.
Complete results are below. The Trojans return to the court on Wednesday when they host Samford at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
