Troy Wins Close Match Over Samford

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team remained unbeaten at home this season and did so by taking a close, 4-3, decision over Samford at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
Troy (9-8) moved to 5-0 at home this year and has now won nine straight at home, dating back to last season.
The Trojans opened the match with a very impressive doubles point. The Troy duo of Trang Huynh and Jiayuan Xue started things with a win over the ranked pair of No. 83 Stephanie N'tcha and Carita Moolman, 8-3, on court No. 1. Anja Cosovic and Sanae Ohta clinched the opening point with an 8-2 win at No. 3.
Huynh quickly gave Troy a 2-0 lead with a 7-6 (1), 6-3 win over N'tcha at No. 1 singles. Huynh, the reigning Sun Belt Athlete of the Week, has now won 11 straight singles matches.
Samford (10-9), who entered having won five straight matches, got on the board with a win at No. 4 singles. However, Linnea Skymberg soon put the Trojans up 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Iva Parapunova at No. 5.
The Bulldogs didn't go away, and a straight-set win at No. 2 followed by a three-set win at No. 6 pulled Samford even at 3-3. That turned all attention to court No. 3 where Xue responded after losing the second set and beat Jessica Northcutt, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to give Troy the win.
The Trojans return to the court on Sunday when they host Florida A&M at 12 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The match will be the Trojans' final of the regular season and also mark Senior Day.
