No. 65 Troy Men's Tennis Splits Two Matches in Florida
4/3/2015 7:42:00 PM | Tennis (M)
ORLANDO and WINTER PARK, Florida – The No. 65 Troy men's tennis team saw its 10-match winning streak snapped in a 4-1 loss at UCF on Friday morning. However, the Trojans rebounded to beat Rollins, the 12th-ranked NCAA Division II team, 4-1, on Friday afternoon.
Against UCF, Troy (21-6) opened the day with a doubles point win at the UCF Tennis Complex, but the Golden Knights dominated singles action to snap Troy's 10-match winning streak.
Troy's doubles team of Hassan Ndayishimye and Andre Baldo started the day with a win at No. 3 doubles as they cruised, 6-2. The Trojans clinched the point with a 6-4 win by Gabriel Dias and Andy Lau at No. 2 doubles, 6-4.
However, UCF (14-8) quickly took four straight-set singles wins as the Golden Knights won at No. 2, No.3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to clinch the match. Dias had won the first set of his match at No. 1 singles before the match was halted.
After making the short trip to Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex on Rollins' campus, the Trojans quickly dominated the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The Trojans dropped just seven combined games in the three matches.
Ndayishimye then gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead as he cruised at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Patrick Sell, the 50th-ranked NCAA Division II player in the nation.
After Rollins (10-7) got a win at No. 3 singles, the bottom of the Trojan lineup sealed the deal with a pair of straight set wins, starting with Giovani Samaha's 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Keegan Burger at No. 5.
Cyprian Owczarz then clinched the match for Troy with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Mika Santa Lucia at No. 6 singles.
Complete results from both matches are below. The Trojans return to the courts on Thursday when they travel to take on No. 69 North Florida.
