Troy Women Open Sun Belt Championships on Friday

NEW ORLEANS – The Troy women's tennis team opens play at the Sun Belt Championships on Friday when its takes on UT Arlington at 11:30 a.m. at the City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.

Troy, the tournament's No. 6 seed, will take on UT Arlington, the tournament's No. 3 seed, with a berth in Saturday's semifinals on the line. The winner will take on the winner of No. 2 Georgia State and No. 10 Arkansas State.

Troy (10-8) has won three straight matches entering the tournament, beating Appalachian State, Samford and Florida A&M. Trang Huynh led the Trojans on the season with a 15-3 singles record that includes wins in her last 12 matches, all at the No. 1 position.

Jiayuan Xue is the only other Trojans with double-digit wins as she is 11-4 in singles play this season. Huynh is 14-2 in doubles play, including a win in her last three matches with Xue as her partner. Anja Cosovic and Sanae Ohta have also won three straight doubles matches together.

UT Arlington (14-5) has won four of its last five matches and eight of its last 10. The Mavericks posted a perfect 4-0 record in matches against Sun Belt teams this season, beating Texas State, UL Lafayette, Arkansas State and ULM.

Elizabeth Thoms and Augustina Serio both posted 12-2 singles marks this season while Angeles de los Rios posted a 12-3 record. Thoms went 11-1 at the No. 1 position for the Mavericks.
