Troy Track and Field Returns to Auburn for War Eagle Invitational

AUBURN, Alabama – After sweeping the women's competition last weekend at the USA Invitational, Troy's track and field team is prepared and ready to take on their next meet at the War Eagle Invitational.

The meet, held at the Hutsell-Rosen Track, will begin Friday at 2:00 p.m. with men and women's hammer throw and triple jump beginning at 4:00 p.m. Saturday's events will begin with the remaining field events at 11:00 a.m., with running events commencing at 12:30 p.m., starting with the women's 4x100-meter relay.

Demetris Elia will begin the meet for the Trojans in the men's hammer throw on Friday. Elia's best finish of the season was a runner-up finish that set a new personal record at the UNF Invitational. Jonathan Valdez will also compete in the event for the Trojans.

Allison Taylor will throw hammer for the Troy women on Friday, as well as the discus on Saturday along with Jaevyn Wortham, who set a new personal record in the event at the USA Invitational. Wortham will also compete in shot put for the Trojans this weekend.

Alexus Cobbs, who took a first place finish and set a new personal record of 11.75-meters in women's triple jump last weekend, will once again compete for the Trojans in the event this weekend.
Â
Mariah Pennington will throw javelin for the Trojan women on Friday, while freshman Joevar James will throw in the event for the men.
Â
The men and women's 1500-meter runs will also be held on Friday night, with Julia Ostendorf and Mikayla Hodges competing for Troy's women. Hodges will pull double duty for the Trojans, also running in the 5000-meter run the same night.

Tim Bulger and Kevin Aldana will run in the 5000-meter on Friday night and will be joined by three other men on Troy's team for the 1500-meter run.

Freshmen standouts Niata Alexander and Sydney Wright will both be running in the 200-meter dash for the Trojan women on Saturday.

Last weekend Alexander took first place in the women's 400-meter dash finishing in 56.83 seconds, and helped the Trojans to a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

Wright led the Trojan women in team points to earn the Trojans a first place finish in the team competition, compiling 36 points through a first place finish in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash as well as assisting the Trojans in the runner-up finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. Wright will also run in the 100-meter dash on Saturday.

Cameron Rice will run in the men's 400-meter dash, while Shakiel Parker and Madison Estes will compete for the Trojans in the 800-meter run.

Christian Knight and Jason Iles will run hurdles for Troy's men. Knight will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, while Iles will run the 100-meter hurdles.

The men will also have a team in the 4x400-meter relay in the last event at 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.
