No. 73 Troy Beats UAB on Senior Day

TROY, Alabama – The No. 73 Troy men's tennis team won its third straight match, this one a 6-1 win over rival UAB on Senior Day at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Sunday.
Troy (23-9) has now won 13 of its last 14 matches after winning Sunday's regular season finale against the Blazers. Prior to the match, the Trojans honored Gabriel Dias as part of Senior Day ceremonies.
The Trojans picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles, respectively, to take the opening point. Andy Lau and Dias won at No. 2, 8-3, before Pablo Moreno and Giovani Samaha won at No. 1, 8-5.
UAB (6-11) started singles play with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, but Troy cruised from there. Hassan Ndayishimye picked the Trojans' first singles win as he beat Luiz Felipe Pinto at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1.
Samaha gave Troy a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Oliver Poysti at No. 6. Lau clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Donovan McSeveney at No. 3 singles.
The remaining two matches went into super tiebreaks, but the Trojans won both. Moreno won at No. 5 over Stepan Vancurick, 3-6, 7-6 (4), (10-6). Dias won at No. 1 over Mitchell Martell, 4-6, 6-1, (11-9).
The Trojans now turn their attention to the Sun Belt Championships. The six-team tournament begins on Friday at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans.
