Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season with Six Wins at Jaguar Opener

MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy track and field team had an outstanding performance at the Jaguar Opener, its opening meet of the 2015 outdoor season.

The Trojans brought home 34 top-5 finishes among the men's and women's team, including four first-place finishes for the women's team and two wins on the men's team. Overall, the women's team placed second and the men placed third.

Julia Ostendorf had a huge day in the distance races on Saturday, winning the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 10:34.00 and also finished runner-up in the 1500-meter run in 4:53.53, a new personal record.

Dallas Worthy and Sydney Wright both won their respective events. Worthy sped in at a new personal record of 40.15 seconds in the women's 300-meter dash. Wright crushed her competition in the women's 100-meter dash with a final time of 12.05 seconds.

Troy had a 1-2 finish in the women's 300-meter dash, with Paige McMillian placing runner-up to Worthy with a 40.52 second finish.

For the men, Cameron Rice dominated the 300-meter dash, placing first with a time of 34.48 seconds. This sets a new personal record in the 300-meter dash for Rice, who was nearly five seconds faster than the runner-up finisher.

The Trojan women had a spectacular day in field events on Saturday. Corina Cox won the women's discus with a 51.39-meter throw. Alexus Cobbs placed second in triple jump with an 11.60-meter leap, and third in the long jump on Friday with a 5.31-meter jump.

Aleah Stigarrl was the runner-up in the women's long jump with a 5.52-meter leap. Aubrey West was right behind Stigarrl, placing fourth in the event with a 5.13-meter jump.

Jaevyn Wortham competed in three throwing events for the Trojans, placing second in shot put with a 12.44-meter throw. Wortham, a freshman, also finished fifth in women's discus with a 43.49-meter performance and seventh in hammer throw, finishing with 43.49-meters.

Issac Jennings competed in the men's long jump for the Trojans, winning the event with a 6.66-meter leap. Jennings also placed second in the men's 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 10.95 seconds.

Freshman Garrison Flloyd placed second in both the men's long jump on Friday and the men's 100-meter hurdles on Saturday in his first collegiate meet. Flloyd lept 6.54-meters in the long jump, and finished the hurdles in 15.17 seconds.

Joevar James threw the javelin for the for the men's team, placing second with a 59.75-meter throw. Riley Schweitz placed fifth and Mariah Pennington placed sixth in women's javelin with distances of 37.17-meters and 36.14-meters, respectively.

In the 1600-meter distance medley the Trojan women's team of McMillian, Wright, Worthy and Erica Kulp placed second, finishing in 4:17.19. The team of Cameia Alexander, Cobbs, Sierra King, and Alyssa Staubach placed fifth with a time of 4:31.14 for the Trojans.

The men's teams placed fifth and sixth in the 1600-meter medley, with the team of Rice, Jennings, Jason Iles and Shakiel Parker finishing in 3:40.02, placing fifth. Another team composed of Josh Henderson, B.J. Kennedy, Christian Knight, and Madison Estes placed sixth with a time of 3:46.52.

The Trojans will compete next weekend at the Coastal Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 13 in Conway, S.C
