Troy Track and Field Heads to Coastal Carolina for Coach “O” Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. – The Troy University track and field team kicks off another weekend of competition at the Coach "O" Coastal Carolina University Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
The meet will be held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium at Myrtle Beach High School. A total of 42 colleges or universities and four club teams will be making the trip to Conway, S.C., to compete, including South Carolina, North Carolina, Elon, Liberty University, Marquette University, and The Citadel.
Friday's events are set to begin in the field with the hammer throw at 9 a.m. CST, with the women's 1500-meter run opening running events at 11:00 a.m. Saturday's field events will commence with the discus throw at 8 a.m., and the women's 3000-meter run starting soon thereafter, at 8:30 a.m.
Last weekend the Trojans had an outstanding showing in its outdoor opener at the Jaguar Opener, bringing home four first-place finishes on the women's team and two wins on the men's side. The women's team finished second overall, while the men's team brought home a third place team finish.
On the women's side, a few athletes to watch this weekend are freshman runner Sydney Wright, and thrower Corina Cox. Wright opened her first outdoor season with a 100-meter dash win for the Trojans. She will compete in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash on Saturday. Cox won the women's discus throw at the Jaguar Opener, and will be competing in discus and shot put for the Trojans this weekend.
For the men's team, freshman Garrison Floyd will compete in several events for Troy including men's javelin and 100-meter hurdles. Last weekend Floyd won second place in men's 100-meter hurdle and third in javelin throw.
