No. 57 Troy Wins Two, Goes Unbeaten in Sun Belt Play

TROY, Alabama – The No. 57 Troy men's tennis team won a pair of matches on Friday in the Troy Spring Invitational at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The Trojans ran their winning streak to nine matches with a 6-1 win over Appalachian State and a 4-0 win over New Orleans.
Troy (19-5, 5-0), with just six non-conference matches remaining in the regular season, will finish the year undefeated in Sun Belt matches after the win over the Mountaineers. After winning the doubles point, Troy quickly put the match away in singles play.
Giovani Samaha started things at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Hassan Ndayishimye cruised at No. 2 singles as his 6-0, 6-1 win over Jack Maddocks put the Trojans up 3-0. Pablo Moreno clinched the match over App State with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
Appalachian State (6-9, 1-1) picked up its lone point with a win at No. 3 singles. Cyprian Oxczarz and Gabriel Dias then closed out the scoring for Troy with wins at No. 6 and No. 1 singles, respectively.
The Trojans then made the quick turn around and quickly shutout New Orleans (6-8) in the Privateers lone match of the day. Troy dropped just three combined games at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the opening point.
In singles play, the Trojans dropped just seven combined games in the three matches that went final. Owczarz started the singles scoring with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. Giovani Samaha then won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2, and Dias won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, to close out the match.
In the three matches that went unfinished, Troy had won two first sets, including at No. 2 singles where Ndayishimye was one game away from winning his match. Complete results from both of Friday's matches are below.
The Trojans close the Troy Spring Invitational on Saturday when they host South Carolina State at 12 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
