Troy Cruises Past UL Lafayette

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team extended its winning streak to three games and won its Sun Belt opener with a 6-1 victory over UL Lafayette at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Troy (5-4, 1-0) dominated the doubles point, nearly grabbing a sweep. After an 8-1 win by Trang Huynh and Anja Cosovic at No. 1, Jiayuan Xue and Linnea Skymberg won, 8-3, on court No. 2. The Trojans pair of Sanae Ohta and Brooke Durden had a match point with a 7-1 lead at No. 3 when the point was clinched.
Troy quickly picked up the Sun Belt victory in singles play as UL Lafayette (3-5, 0-1) managed just a super tiebreak win at No. 5, but by then the Trojans were already up 5-0.
Huynh win at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Kelly Drew. Troy took a 3-0 lead when Cosovic won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2, over Elena Sava. The Trojans clinched the match when Xue won at No. 4, 6-4, 6-3, over Alexandra Way.
Ohta, at No. 2, and Durden, at No. 6, also picked up wins for Troy by scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8), respectively. Complete results are below.
The Trojans return to the court next Saturday when they host UTSA at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
