Andy Lau Leads Troy Past Florida Gulf Coast

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Troy won a pair of three-set singles matches, including the clincher from freshman Any Lau, as the Trojans beat Florida Gulf Coast, 4-3, on a neutral court at the City Island Tennis Center.
Troy (6-4) fresh off a near upset of No. 19 Ole Miss, saw Florida Gulf Coast (5-2) quickly take the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Eagles then took a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 4 singles.
However, Pablo Moreno got Troy on the board with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Michael Neiler at No. 6 singles. Giovani Samaha then tied the match with Troy's first three-set win as she beat Tianyu Bao at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Florida Gulf Coast, who was coming off of a win over No. 71 Miami, took a 3-2 lead when Jordia Vives, the 107th-ranked player in the nation, won at No. 1 singles.
Troy's ranked singles player, No. 89 Gabriel Dias, quickly tied the match back up as he won at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-4. That is when Lau came back after dropping the first set to give Troy the match. The Hong Kong native beat Eduardo Alfonzo at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Complete results are below. The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they first travel to take on Stetson at 10 a.m. CT, before returning to the City Island Tennis Center to take on Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m. CT.
