TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball hits the road for its final three games of the non-conference season, starting with a trip to New Jersey as it squares up against Seton Hall on Thursday at the Prudential Center. The game, which can be seen on Fox Sports 1, is slated to tip at 7 p.m. CT.
The Trojans' second TV game of the season will feature play by play from Justin Kutcher, and color commentary from Tarik Turner. The matchup between the Trojans and Pirates can also be heard on the Troy Sports Radio Network with Barry McKnight and Jerry Miller.
Troy (4-4) is coming off an 80-71 loss at home to Austin Peay. Jeremy Hollimon led the Trojans with 25 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the floor, including a hot 6-of-8 from long range. Wesley Person and Jordon Varnado, the team's top scorers, both finished in double figures with 12 and 13 points, respectively.
In the loss, the Trojans shot their season-best from 3-point range, 42 percent (13-of-31). After struggling for the first few games, Troy has earned its best percentage from downtown in three straight games.
In the NCAA, Varnado currently ranks second among all freshmen in double-doubles, with four, trailing only Ben Simmons of LSU.
The Trojan defense has had quick hands all year, allowing Troy to rank 24th in the nation in steals per contest at 8.9 per game, which is the second most in the Sun Belt.
Seton Hall (6-2) is coming off an 84-55 victory over instate foe, Rutgers. The Pirates defeated the Scarlet Knights on their home court at The RAC for their second-straight win over Rutgers. Isaiah Whitehead (15.4), Khade Carrington (15.0) and Desi Rodriguez (12.0) all average double-digit points for the Pirates. The trio accounts for 58 percent of the team's point total through the first eight games.
In their last game, Carrington led all scorers with 18. Angel Delgado and Michael Nzei reeled in 13 and 12 rebounds, respectively. The team out-rebounded the Scarlet Knights, 53-32. In all but one game this season (Wagner) the Pirates have outscored or matched their opponents' points in the paint.
Next up, Troy heads to the Dothan Civic Center next week as it faces Paine College on Thursday, December 17. The Trojans wrap up their non-conference slate on December 22 as they travel to Oxford to play Ole Miss.
